How to Apply Non-Curing Rubber Bitumen Coating (Video Guide)

Unlike traditional coatings that dry into a solid film, YSROOM’s Non-Curing Rubber Bitumen Waterproof Coating maintains a viscous, sticky gel state permanently. This unique "creep" property gives it outstanding self-healing capabilities, allowing it to absorb structural movements and seal substrate cracks automatically. It is typically combined with SBS or polymer membranes to create an impenetrable, heavy-duty composite waterproofing system.

Standard Application Steps

  • Melting the Coating: Place the solid non-curing rubber bitumen into a professional heating melter. Heat it to 120°C - 150°C until it becomes a uniform, flowable liquid.

  • Surface Preparation & Primer: Ensure the concrete substrate is clean, dry, and structurally sound. Apply a compatible bitumen primer and wait for it to dry completely.

  • Application (Spraying or Scraping): Apply the hot liquid bitumen evenly onto the substrate using a heated spray machine or a heated toothed squeegee. Maintain an even thickness (usually 1.5mm - 2.0mm).

  • Membrane Composite Installation: While the coating is still hot and sticky, immediately roll out the waterproof membrane (e.g., SBS modified bitumen membrane) over the coating. Press the membrane firmly to ensure 100% full adhesion without any hollow areas.

    Technical Q&A (Consultation Center)

  • Q: Can this non-curing coating be used as a standalone waterproofing layer?A: It is not recommended to use it alone because it remains sticky and cannot resist mechanical impact or foot traffic. It must be used as part of a composite system with a waterproof membrane.

  • Q: What are the best application areas for this system?A: It is highly recommended for underground basements, subway tunnels, and large-span commercial flat roofs where structural movement or cracking is a concern.
